10 Reasons to Put the Past Where it Belongs, Behind You
If you want to live a fulfilling life then you’ve got to be willing to cut yourself a little bit of slack in the regrets department! We’ve got 10 reasons to put the past right where it belongs—behind you:
10. Because Mistakes Lead To Awesome Things
The best way to learn anything in life is by making mistakes. If you think back to all of the moments that you deem as “screw ups”, you’ll see there was at least one lesson learned. That lesson may have actually led to something super awesome and you didn’t even realize it!
9. If You Never Fail How Will You Know When You Succeed?
You can’t know the taste of true success until you’ve failed a few times, so those regrets kind of deserve a high five before you place them in the past where they belong.
8. It’s All About Experiences
All decisions made throughout the course of your life should be looked at as experiences that you would have never had otherwise. Life is worth living and to do that you’ve got to take some risks.
7. No Matter the Outcome, Love Isn’t Wrong
Got some crappy feelings on a few old relationships? Don’t give them any more of your time because the bottom line is: love is never wrong. You can’t control what the heart wants and it would be zero fun to even try!
6. You’re Already Too Hard On Yourself
Cut yourself some slack, would you? Chances are you’re already too hard on yourself about a million other things (read: career, how you look, your love life) so holding on to stuff from the past is just totally unfair. Leave the stuff you can’t change anymore behind you and move on!
5. Because The Future is Bright
Who knows what’s going to happen in the next year, five years, ten years?! But that’s the best part of this whole life thing – looking forward to the NOT knowing. The bright possibilities of what’s actually to come in the future are endless.
4. What Do You Gain By Holding On To Regrets?
Put the past where it belongs because you gain nothing holding on to old regrets. Can you change the past? Then let go of whatever it is that’s still bogging you down.
3. It’s Just Healthier
Holding on to stuff you can’t change isn’t emotionally healthy. Period. If you really want to live a happy and fulfilling life then you’ve got to be able to put the past behind you before it destroys all chances at a solid future.
2. The Past Helped Shape You
You wouldn’t be you without the decisions made in your past. It’s normal to carry regrets, but remember that we’re shaped by ALL of the moments, not just the pretty ones.
1. Life is TOO Short
No one wants to be that person on their deathbed talking about all the things they wish they did while they had the chance! Life is too damn short to get all hung up what didn’t work out in the past. Throw away regrets, do what makes you happy and never apologize for it.
